After GM's $50 billion dollar bailout, plus GM's $9 billion IPO loss 4 months ago, plus the Feds purchasing 1-in-every-4 GM hybrids sold, plus bankrupt GM distributing manager bonuses up to 50% of their salaries, plus Motor Trend naming the government-subsidized Chevy Volt as ‘Car of the Year’ without a single Volt ever being sold, Government Motors spun another press release today citing 'GM's February auto sales are up'.
Miraculously, within hours, as if the Associated Press had anticipated GM's announcement, AP tailored their version of GM's propaganda, then issued the directive to its worldwide members - aka mainstream media. Minutes later, millions of people were feeding from the MSM trough on 'news' of GM's 'success'.
Every headline from the following MSM outlets reads in boldface type, 'GM Leads Auto Sales', or something to that effect:
Forbes, MarketWatch, NBC-AP, Yahoo, CNN, USA Today, LA Times, MSNBC, Bloomberg, Salon, CNBC, Daily Finance, Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune, ABC News, Reuters, Times Union, Boston Globe, FOX Business, FOX, Washington Times, Daily Caller, Auto News, NY Times, Barron's, Star Tribune, SF Gate, Times Dispatch, Wall Street Journal, Comcast, Charlotte Observer, Business Insider, NPR, [...]
And the regurgitated AP lead-ins read,
'General Motors Co. led automakers with a 49 percent U.S. sales jump last month.'
How does a bankrupt, bailed-out company run by a government that's $14+ trillion in debt motivate people to purchase GM vehicles? Through more debt - disguised as 'incentives' - of course:
'But the sales gains, especially for GM, were juiced by sweeter financing and lease deals. While analysts weren't ready to declare a price war — and GM denied starting one — they noted an increase in the deals customers were offered.'
And get this, GM spent nearly $4,000 per vehicle, IN FEBRUARY, on incentives alone:
'GM spent $3,849 a vehicle on incentives in February, up from $3,518 a year earlier, according to researcher Edmunds.com. The overall industry lowered incentives by 3.7 percent to $2,558, according to Edmunds estimates.'
“This is clearly incentive-driven,” Jeremy Anwyl, chief executive officer of Santa Monica, California-based Edmunds, said of GM’s results in a telephone interview. “The rest of the industry is not really responding yet. Nobody is really matching GM.”
Of course not. How could anyone match a government-run company that receives $ multi-billion cash infusions upon request?
Atlas Shrugged synopsis from Wiki:
'In their efforts, these "men of the mind" hope to demonstrate that a world in which the individual is not free to create is doomed, that civilization cannot exist where men are slaves to society and government, and that the destruction of the profit motive leads to the collapse of society.'
