Israel Edges Closer to Iran Attack

A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

Israel (and the world) is edging closer, everyday, to an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Completely disgusted with the Obama Regime’s “pretty please” approach to diplomacy with Iran, and frustrated with the US government’s “hovering” and insistence that Israel notify the US before any such attack, Israel is leaning forward and chomping at the bit to make the hit and make it ASAP.

Recent reports tell of an Israeli drone capable of reconnaissance, surveillance, -- and attack – that crashed on a test flight over Israel recently. News reports of the incident resulted in tensions being raised one more notch.

The Israeli drone – a Heron TP – has a range of well over 4,000 miles. Iran is roughly 1,000 miles from Israel.

The Heron is a BIG airplane. It has a wingspan nearly equal to that of a 737 Airliner -- approximately 85 feet. It can carry a payload of well over a ton.

According to a report in the Washington Times the Heron TP, which soars as high as 40,000 feet, would likely play a key role in an attack on Iran. The plane can be utilized for recon and surveillance or “for firing rockets, and can be used in a variety of missions such as aerial refueling, jamming communications and relaying ground control in Israel to manned aircraft over a distant target.” (SOURCE)

The Heron TP is not a new aircraft. It has been in service for at least two years.

While Israel feels pressure from Iran, it also must keep an eye over it’s should watching the “New” Egyptian government. Egypt’s recently elected parliament has said it has no intention of renewing the its long standing peace treaty with Israel. To Israel’s north, Syria is in flames with Assad’s government slaughtering its citizens in a near Syrian civil war.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that Assad, Syria’s dictator, could stir up trouble with it’s southern neighbor, Israel, to redirect the attention of it’s people and take some of the pressure off Syria’s unpopular government.

Israel is in a world of trouble with threats from all sides -- not including the so-called Palestinians, who are, in fact, Arabs. They are pushing the UN to carve a Palestinian state out of Israeli land.

The entire Middle East is in flames with a regional war almost certain in the immediate future. Any “regional” war in the Middle East, will, of necessity, involve most of the industrialized nations of the west – including the US and the UK. The Middle East is, of course, the source of much of the world’s oil and that oil must continue to flow even if the price is paid, as it almost certainly will be, in blood.

Here in America, we are confused at our government’s downsizing of the US military. It makes no sense. We are on the cusp of a war that has the potential to make the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq … and even Libya, look like Sunday School picnics.

I have a theory as to why Obama is pushing this draw down of the US military. It is far-fetched, I grant you, but the Obama Regime is a past master at utterly stupid decision making, so this theory is as good as anyone else’s – at the moment.

Hypothetically, just suppose, the idea is to allow the Middle East to engage in a war with very little involvement by the US. It would most likely be a protracted war that would reduce the flow of oil to a trickle. That would send oil prices and fuel prices for transportation, fuel to heat our homes, and the myriad other uses we have for petroleum products astronomically high.

Americans would, of necessity, be forced to cut back on oil consumption. That would, supposedly, be good for the environment. Of course, our economy would collapse entirely and set the stage for a takeover of the American government by socialists who will provide a way to “restore” America -- as a socialist country.

Far-fetched, you say? Really? Is it really THAT far-fetched? Think about it: These are leftists, Marxists, socialists, communists, democrats, anarchists, and yes, environmentalist. We have come to believe that environmentalism is nothing more that a religion based on Marxism.

Remember: Just because it is a conspiracy theory doesn’t mean there isn’t a conspiracy.

The US is about to be drawn into a near world war – and we are cutting back our military? This entire scenario lends itself to all sorts of conspiracy theories. I’m sure you have your own.

In the meantime, the Obama Regime is allowing our only friend in the region, Israel, to hang out there, twisting in the wind, feeling for all the world like a sacrificial lamb.

Yes, a war between Israel and Iran is on the agenda. It could be months away, or it could be before sunrise tomorrow. And it could be a nuclear war.

SOPA and PIPA – The Latest Attempts by Congress to Curb Our Freedoms

There must be better ways to stop people from stealing proprietary content on the Internet than the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) bills. These legislative nightmares seek to close down sites on the web which allow the free flow of copyrighted information. This originates with the entertainment industry, which thinks restrictions on the public make them more profitable. I don’t agree with their strategy, but the idea might sound somewhat reasonable to some - until they realize that these laws also affect Internet providers and search engines alike. They restrict the Internet’s flow, and with an iron fist - backed by tough penalties, they hurt everyone along the way.

Non-technical reasons for opposition include the free speech argument, and further expansion of governmental authority. Search providers could be held responsible for the content of web sites, over which they have no control. Libraries might find themselves accused of criminal acts, and the flow of information and innovation would be slowed to a crawl. The process for blocking web sites recommended by the legislation sounds a lot like Big Brother, right out of George Orwell’s 1984, and the political implications stand out. With the slippery slope tilted downward, the door wide open to shut down sites we don’t like, eventually anyone will have the free reign to shut down any site for objectionable content.

Technical reasons to oppose this insanity include the destruction of the world-wide DNS (Domain Name Service) model. Currently all DNS servers theoretically contain the same data. With the passage of this bill, the U.S., like Communist China, would have the right to restrict the content of the DNS servers within it, causing a difference in content. This ruins the DNS model, and inhibits freedom. The bill will no doubt create a whirlwind; a senseless waste of activity. An unnecessary rebel online community will emerge, where users will create applications and/or lists of the restricted web sites’ IP addresses, which could be reached anyway, despite the new law. I salute Wikipedia and Google for their protests last week. I oppose anything that restricts freedom. Keep the Internet free and open!

Just see the star-studded list of Congressmen who created and support these freedom-killing bills, Republicans and Democrats alike. Please vote them out, they know not what they do.

Way back in 2009, Barack Obama declared that his administration, unlike that of George "Everything Is His Fault" Bush, would be about "ensuring that scientific data is never distorted or concealed to serve a political agenda — and that we make scientific decisions based on facts, not ideology."

Which should make for some pretty interesting non-political decision making now that climate scientists have declared that there has been no global warming in the past 15 years, and we seem to actually be entering a new mini-Ice Age owing to a downturn in solar activity. Some scientists believe that we're in for colder temperatures, shorter growing seasons, and harsher winters for the next half-century or more.

Fortunately, the entirely non-ideological man in the Whitehouse has been busily making science-based decisions to help Americans cope with the extreme cold wave heading our way. Not by allowing more fossil fuels to be mined or drilled, of course. Nor by allowing additional exploration for such fuels. And of course, he's against pipelines which might bring much-needed oil to our refineries.

But he continues to dump large quantities of taxpayer money into "green" technologies which will keep us all toasty and warm, if any of them ever prove to work before we freeze to death.

Oh sure, the president's gamble with Solyndra went belly up in a hurry, but fortunately he'd also had the foresight to invest our tax money in Evergreen Energy - which remained robustly healthy until they'd finished spending our cash and went out of business last week.

But with an eye towards the future, Mr. Obama had also funneled our money into a company called Ener1, which very-profitably made batteries for electric cars like the Government Motors Exploding Chevy Volt...until they declared bankruptcy last week.

Of course, the president's high-tech green energy investments haven't all gone bankrupt. Amonix Inc - yet another maker of solar panels - announced that thanks to $5.9 million in stimulus funds, they were able to keep their doors open for a full seven months before laying off two thirds of their workforce last week.

With all of these shutdowns and breakdowns last week, you'd think the president would have said something in his State of the Union speech about green energy. And in fact, he did - recommitting himself to dumping billions more of our tax dollars into wind and solar research in order to create energy sources which will not cause the Earth to warm.

No matter how much we'll want them to.

There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See

I received the article below recently by e-mail as I expect many of you did. I have no clue as to the author. The message it contains is profound.

Many of my generation remember Castro -- even before he proclaimed he was a communist by his words and deeds. By that time, the people of Cuba were enslaved. The nearest freedom lay ninety miles away -- across a watery divide. The “five and ten cents” stores sold Castro hats and Castro beards to America’s children. Castro’s façade was THAT complete and THAT effective.

Many conservative commentators have been warning America for four years that unmistakable signs of communism are emanating from the leader of our nation. The warning flags went up long before he was elected. They were ignored.

Those issuing the warnings have been scoffed at, belittled, and made the butt of jokes. It matters not that those warning America to beware were, and are, men and women of experience. Their words of caution have come from a lifetime of defending America in and out of uniform.

See, we recognize the philosophy of America’s leader. Why? The answer is simple … because we have seen it all before. If fact, we saw it in our neighboring country … Cuba. We watched as Cuba embraced a charismatic savior with flowing oratory who quickly became their slave master.

“There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT SEE.” John Heywood is credited with having said this way back in 1546. It is as true today as it was then … and even before Heywood made the remark.

In 2008, America underwent a period of willful blindness during which voters elected America’s current leader. Over the past three years, the scales have been slowly falling from our eyes as we survey the damage that mistake has caused the United States of America … and the world.

Whoever the author of the piece below, he/she has also seen the many disguises communism uses to successfully attract those who do not have the benefit of experience. Like moths to a flame, they flock to the warmth of the bright light that will consume them.

To those of us with a lifetime of experience, the Obama Regime is all too familiar and utterly frightening.

I remember asking dad about Castro when I was about 9 years old. I asked, "Is Castro a good guy or bad?"

Dad said...he couldn't tell!! This was about 1955. We were living in Louisiana ...at the time. Dad was in the Army there.

Cuba was fairly close and in the news a lot. The Cubans were asking the same question!

Ike was President.

This past July, we had the pleasure of sharing a summer barbecue with a refugee from Cuba. Our dinner conversation was starkly different than most.

This refugee came to the United States as a young boy in the early 1960's. His family was more fortunate than most, as they were able to bring a suitcase...and $100 when they fled Castro's newly formed revolutionary paradise.

Our dinner consisted of all-American fare: hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon, and fresh ears of sweet corn. This is a menu shared with family and friends nationwide...while celebrating the birth of our beloved America ...on the Fourth of July.

We began with a simple discussion about our country, and the direction it has taken since Barack Obama came to power. We shared the usual complaints about the sour economy and liberal social engineering emanating from the rulers in Washington.

But then he said it. The sentence came naturally. I assume it was unplanned. But it carried the weight of a freight train. "You know, when Castro took power, none of us knew he was a Communist.”

We sat stunned. He continued, "Yes, we all thought he was a patriot, a nationalist. Before the revolution he didn't sound like a radical."

The comparison at this point was easy, and I interjected, "You mean just like Barack Obama?"

He responded; "Yes, just like Barack Obama."

He continued, "We were all shocked as the government just continued to grab more power. First they said the revolution is over, so please turn in your guns. We all complied."

I remember my uncle saying after it started; “Castro will only nationalize some of the big industries. He will never come and take our family hardware store!!” But that is exactly what happened. Castro started with the sugar mills and the large industries, but they eventually came and knocked on the door of our family hardware store. My family had run this store for generations. They said we now own the hardware store. You work for us. And that nice, large four-bedroom home you own...it is now our property also, and ... you can move yourself and five children into two rooms of the house, because others are moving in with you."

The lesson learned from this discussion, is a lesson most Americans refuse to hear. Political leaders can lie about their agenda and once in office...they can take totally unexpected turns.

If you had asked us three years ago if we thought General Motors would be nationalized, we would have never believed it. We could never contemplate a country where the rule of law, the most fundamental building block of a just society...would be evaporating, just like it did in Castro's Cuba in the early 1960's.

But the news of injustice keeps increasing. Black Panthers are not charged with wrong doing by the U.S. Department of Justice...because their crimes are against whites. The bondholders of GM are stripped of their assets...without due process by the government! Governmental leaders are bribed in full daylight...only to have all investigation of the crimes stifled...by the Attorney General.

The U.S. borders are over run with crime and illegal activity, and the leaders in D.C. act as if it is important to protect the lawbreakers.... while the innocent are killed and over run. When local communities attempt to enforce the law, they are ridiculed...and threatened as racists and bigots. They are sued by the very administration...entrusted with enforcing the law.

Without the rule of law, the U.S. Constitution is a sham!! Without the rule of law, our beloved America is swiftly becoming a country where only the well connected and politically powerful will be safe. As Michelle Malkin has so eloquently explained in her recent book...a culture of corruption has replaced honest government.

The only way this problem will be fixed is by massive citizen action. All honest citizens that want to be treated equally, must come together...and demand that the favoritism, the bribes, the uneven enforcement of law...end now!!

And yes, IT CAN HAPPEN HERE!!

New Figures Show No Global Warming in 15 years

Global warming is a hoax. Why do we still continue to fool ourselves?

(Dailymail) The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

Meanwhile, leading climate scientists yesterday told The Mail on Sunday that, after emitting unusually high levels of energy throughout the 20th Century, the sun is now heading towards a ‘grand minimum’ in its output, threatening cold summers, bitter winters and a shortening of the season available for growing food.

We are now at what should be the peak of what scientists call ‘Cycle 24’ – which is why last week’s solar storm resulted in sightings of the aurora borealis further south than usual. But sunspot numbers are running at less than half those seen during cycle peaks in the 20th Century.

Analysis by experts at NASA and the University of Arizona – derived from magnetic-field measurements 120,000 miles beneath the sun’s surface – suggest that Cycle 25, whose peak is due in 2022, will be a great deal weaker still.

If I were psychic I couldn’t have made a better call. I make no metaphysical claims… quite the contrary. Ever since the 2010 elections, the Republicrats and the Lame Stream lap dogs of the Obama regime have been at great pains to convince us, convince you, that we were an aberration, a momentary phenomenon, a freak of nature. We would soon be absorbed into the Republican establishment, which would once again rule all of us rubes with wisdom… nay, true sagacity.

We talked at great length about Mitt Romney and the central and overriding fact that he is a big government Republican in the establishment mold. Worse yet, he’s moderate to liberal on most issues that really matter to fully 60% of the citizens of this country that consider themselves to be conservative.

That’s the one thing that Mitt Romney is not. No matter what the repeated battery from his PACs… those unaccountable political garbage grinders behind which Mr. Milquetoast can hide, while devastating anyone who is perceived as a threat to his vanilla Republicrat candidacy. Ask Herman Cain.

Romney’s all-too-cute destruction of Herman Cain’s candidacy with a (most likely) ‘paid’ bimbo eruption, during which not a single one of the supposed victims could articulate anything remotely connecting Herman to any impropriety, other than one very vague generalization of making one ‘lady’ uncomfortable. The one direct charge of an extended extramarital affair by another turned out to be just so much more opportunism by a bought-and-paid-for bimbo. Nonetheless, it had the desired effect, as Herman withdrew from the 2012 presidential race rather than have his family dragged through the filth generated by the Romney PAC. This may prove to be the lynch pin to end Romney’s presidential pretentions.

Newt Gingrich is a flawed human, as are we all. He’s made some serious mistakes in attacking Bain Capital, giving the impression of anti-capitalism which the Romnites and the leftist press have been quick to take advantage of. Fact: Bain Capital did raid several companies, resulting in their bankruptcy. But Newt Gingrich is no anti-capitalist. He led the Reagan ‘revolution’, bringing fiscal sanity to the lefty mess left by ‘Jimma Cata’. None other than Nancy Reagan herself was generous in her praise of Newt’s efforts and his unwavering support for the Reagan Conservative Revolution. Putting the lie to another of the Romney PACs whole-cloth prevarications.

Florida is being touted by the leftist press and the Romney team (et al) as the end of the campaign. That’s it, it’s in the bag. That presumptive thing fostered by the ever shifty RNC establishment again. Um… gee whiz, it’s those pesky Tea Party guys again. Romney was supposed to be nine points ahead in Florida as of yesterday. I’m not so sure. There have been many Tea Party types who, disgusted with the savaging of Herman Cain, have been waiting out on the sidelines and are beginning to stir in huge numbers with Herman Cain’s surprise endorsement of Newt Gingrich.

Herman Cain stood a darn good chance of capturing the Republican nomination, which is why he had to be destroyed. I’ll tell you what must be giving not only Romney but MaoBama himself hives… the thought of a Gingrich candidacy in which he drafts Herman Cain as his running mate. Talk about a living nightmare for the communist regime of our wannabe Mahdi President Barack Hussein Obama and the febrile establishment Repubics (thanks, Mark Levin).

The South Carolina Tea Party Patriots fired the first shot. It won’t be the last.

G.K. Chesterton’s warning not only embodies Lord Polonius’ famous articulation "brevity is the soul of wit" from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, but his sentiment is still relevant today. Mr. Chesterton’s comment could be interpreted as drawing a distinction between what some describe as education is in reality dogmatism, but his overarching concern for the manner and means of education in the first decade of the twentieth century lingers more than a hundred years later.

The questions and challenges that faced Chesterton’s era are still prevalent and they range from the fundamental to the esoteric. Among them are what is the purpose of education and how do we determine and/or define truth in education? What are the educational methods that best inform and enlighten in an unbiased manner? What are the benchmarks for a qualified teacher? How do educational methods, processes and approaches strike that delicate balance between pragmatism and idealism, that is to say what educational processes best prepare young people to have the necessary skills for employment, yet do not sacrifice the cultivation of their intellect, imagination and sense of morality? What are the federal, state and local government's roles to best serve the educational process? And, most importantly, how best to integrate and engage stakeholders such as parents and local communities into the educational decision making process?

America's educational system is one of its vital unfinished sculptures; compelling society to conserve its strengths and improve its deficiencies. There must be a constant vigil on America's education policies to ensure that it supports and advances America's rich traditions, heritage and the natural rights declared in its founding documents. With that cause in mind 2011 was a lively year when in came to education policy. Lindsey Burke of the Heritage Foundation corralled together a nice summary of the major policies and issues affecting education. The following are highlighted excerpts from Ms. Burke’s list.

1. Year of School Choice

The most exciting educational development of the last year was captured by a Wall Street Journal editorial headline crowning 2011 “The Year of School Choice.” In 2011, more families than ever before gained access to school choice options, freeing them from assignment-by-zip code policies that often relegate families to the public school closest to their home, regardless of whether it meet their child’s needs.

2. Congress reauthorizes the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program

In 2009 and 2010, families of low-income children receiving vouchers through the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program were reeling with uncertainty. The program was on its way to extinction due to language inserted in a 2009 spending bill by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). But in early 2011, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) made it his personal mission to see that the voucher program was restored and expanded, and he successfully fought for the reauthorization of the D.C. OSP.

3. States limit collective bargaining

Education unions have long been a roadblock to reform. But in a bold move in early 2011, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker limited the power of public sector collective bargaining in his state. Most importantly, Gov. Walker gave teachers a choice: Public school teachers can now choose whether or not to join a union.

4. Obama Administration issues No Child Left Behind waivers

Despite Congressional deliberations over NCLB’s future and thoughtful alternatives to the law put forward by the House Education and the Workforce Committee and others, the Obama Administration decided in the fall of 2011 that time was up and began an end-run around Congress. The Administration began the process of issuing waivers to states for NCLB, conditioning access to the waivers on whether a state was willing to adopt the Administration’s preferred education policies. The waivers are another executive overreach from the Obama Administration, and state leaders should reject them in 2012 and demand genuine relief from NCLB.

5. Administration continues national standards push

One of the more concerning education developments in 2011 was the Obama Administration’s continued push for states to adopt national standards and tests. National standards are a significant Washington overreach into what is taught in local schools, and would further remove parents for the educational decision-making process.

6. Online learning growth accelerates

In 2011, a growing number of families decided to take advantage of the online learning options now available for K-12 students across the country. According to Keeping Pace with K-12 Online Learning, there are now 30 states with full-time online learning schools, open to students from districts across the state. Across the country, students are taking millions of courses online, customizing their educational experiences.

7. House Education and the Workforce Committee moves to reduce federal role in education

In 201 the House Education and the Workforce Committee put forward some major proposals to begin the important work of reducing the federal role in education. Two important proposals were introduced: one, by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), would trim the number of programs under NCLB from around 80 down to 43. Another by Chairman John Kline (R-MN), would allow states more flexibility to spend federal education dollars in a way that best meets the needs of local students. Both are good first steps to returning more power to state and local leaders, and reducing Washington’s bloated role in education.

8. Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) sees action

Federal education policy watchers were surprised to see the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee pass a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), today known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Hopefully the Senate committee’s solo action will remain a 2011 relic, and approaches to allow states to opt-out completely will be considered in 2012.

9. Obama forgives student loans

In November 2011, President Obama traveled to the University of Colorado-Boulder to announce his plan to forgive federal student loans, a demand made, notably, by the Occupy Wall Street crowd. Students cannot be required to pay more than 10 percent of their discretionary income on loan payments, all of which will be forgiven after 20 years. Sadly, this executive overreach shifts the burden of paying for college from the students who are directly benefiting from having attended college, to the nearly three-quarters of Americans who did not graduate from college.

10. Obama Administration orchestrates for-profit university witch hunt

On June 2 2011, the Department of Education issued restrictive new regulations targeting “for-profit” higher education institutions. The new “gainful employment” regulation restricts access to student loans for students attending for-profit institutions (like Capella University or the University of Phoenix, for instance) if the school’s average debt-to- earnings ratio exceeds 12 percent of a graduate’s income. The net result? De-facto government price controls on a sector meeting the needs of students historically underserved by traditional universities.

Ronald Reagan’s eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney’s Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan.

Reagan says such claims are false.

Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida."

Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt.

“That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s.

“He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan,” Limbaugh said.

On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax: “I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father.

“Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision.

“It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission said he opposed my father in the 1980s claiming he was an 'independent,' and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president.

“As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

“Say what you want about Newt Gingrich but when he was Speaker of the House he surrounded himself with Reagan conservatives and implemented a Ronald Reagan program of low taxes and restrained federal spending.

“Newt’s conservative program created a huge economic boom and balanced the budget for the first time in more than a generation.”

Mike Reagan concluded: “I would take Newt Gingrich’s record any day over Mitt Romney’s.”

And Nancy Reagan, Reagan’s wife, has stressed Gingrich’s close relationship with her late husband.

In a 1995 speech at a dinner honoring Ronald Reagan, Nancy said: “The dramatic movement of 1995 is an outgrowth of a much earlier crusade that goes back half a century. Barry Goldwater handed the torch to Ronnie, and in turn Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt and the Republican members of Congress to keep that dream alive.”

The other day there was an article stating that Newt was against Ronald Reagan. Conservative Republicans put Reagan high on the mantle for being Conservative. Any GOP candidate spewing conservatism should mimic Reagan. The article came from a pro-Romney supporter. Thus, the article was a lie. In fact, Nancy Reagan supports Newt. Also, Ronald Reagan's son, Michael Reagan, supports Newt too.

Yesterday we took note of former Reagan State Department official Elliott Abrams' piece over at NRO that went after Newt Gingrich on his relationship with Reagan. While voting regularly with Reagan as a young congressman from Georgia, Gingrich, claimed Abrams, "often spewed insulting rhetoric at Reagan, his top aides and his policies to defeat Communism." Abrams then goes on to cite " a famous floor statement Gingrich made on March 21, 1986."

Or sort of cites it.

In fact, I'm sorry to say, what appears to be going on here is that Elliott Abrams, a considerably admirable public servant and a very smart guy, has been swept up in the GOP Establishment's Romney frothings over the rise of Newt Gingrich in the Republican primaries. He is even being accused of trolling for a job in a Romney administration. No way!!!! Really????

What else can possibly explain a piece like the one Abrams penned on a day when Gingrich was being of a mysterious sudden targeted in one hit piece after another for his ties to Reagan? The pieces invariably following the Romney line that Newt had some version of nothing to do with Reagan.

A piece like the one Abrams wrote depends for its success in garnering headlines -- which it did -- by assuming no one will bother to get into the weeds and do the homework. Usually a safe assumption when dealing with the mainstream media, particularly a mainstream media that, as one with Establishment Republicans, hates Newt Gingrich.

Not so fast.

Specifically, Abrams implies that Newt Gingrich was spewing mindless vitriol about Reagan on the House floor. Not only not so, it was quite to the contrary. Of President Reagan, Gingrich says:

• "Let me be clear: I have the greatest respect for President Reagan. I think he personally understands the threat of communism." Gingrich then goes on -- at Newtonian length -- praising Reagan for Reagan's understanding of Lenin, Reagan's understanding of the real "purposes of a Soviet dictatorship" and much more. He lists and applauds Reagan repeatedly for the President's appreciation of "the threat in a more powerful Soviet empire" and the threats posed by Communist Cuba and Nicaragua. He ranks Reagan with the great cold war presidents in protecting freedom.

In short, time after time after, Newt Gingrich -- true to form -- is there on the floor of the House relentlessly praising and crediting Ronald Reagan. Is it any wonder that years later Nancy Reagan would speak so publicly and warmly about "Ronnie" passing the conservative torch to Newt? Is there any wonder that Michael Reagan has stepped into the middle of this current brawl to endorse Newt?

• Abrams quotes Newt for saying in this speech that Reagan's policies towards the Soviets are "inadequate and will ultimately fail." This is shameful. Why? Here's what Newt said -- in full and in context:

"The fact is that George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Irving Kristol, and Jeane Kirkpatrick are right in pointing out the enormous gap between President Reagan's strong rhetoric, which is adequate, and his administration's weak policies, which are inadequate and will ultimately fail."

In other words, Newt was picking up on a concern, prominent in the day and voiced by no less than Reagan's then ex-UN Ambassador Kirkpatrick, not to mention prominent Reagan supporters Will and Kristol and the late-Mondale aide turned conservative Krauthammer, that Reagan's anti-Communist policies could be stronger if better institutionalized and not tied as much to the Reagan persona. The entire speech focused on suggestions of how to do just that -- to effectively institutionalize Reagan's conservative beliefs in the government. Is Abrams seriously accusing Jeane Kirkpatrick and George Will of being anti-Reagan? Of spewing "insulting rhetoric" at a president everyone in Washington knew they staunchly supported? Really? Of course not. But in apparent service to the Romney campaign, in order to make Newt Gingrich appear to be doing just that, Abrams apparently quite deliberately cut out the original Gingrich reference to Will, Kirkpatrick, Krauthammer, and Kristol.

THE ECONOMY

2010: “We can’t afford another so-called economic ‘expansion’ like the one from the last decade –- what some call the ‘lost decade’ -– where jobs grew more slowly than during any prior expansion; where the income of the average American household declined while the cost of health care and tuition reached record highs; where prosperity was built on a housing bubble and financial speculation.”

2011: “We are poised for progress. Two years after the worst recession most of us have ever known, the stock market has come roaring back. Corporate profits are up. The economy is growing again.

But we have never measured progress by these yardsticks alone. We measure progress by the success of our people. By the jobs they can find and the quality of life those jobs offer.”

So tonight, I’m asking Democrats and Republicans to simplify the system. Get rid of the loopholes. Level the playing field. And use the savings to lower the corporate tax rate for the first time in 25 years –- without adding to our deficit. It can be done.”

DEBT

2010: “Now, if we had taken office in ordinary times, I would have liked nothing more than to start bringing down the deficit. But we took office amid a crisis. And our efforts to prevent a second depression have added another $1 trillion to our national debt. That, too, is a fact. I’m absolutely convinced that was the right thing to do. But families across the country are tightening their belts and making tough decisions. The federal government should do the same.”

2011: “Now that the worst of the recession is over, we have to confront the fact that our government spends more than it takes in. That is not sustainable. Every day, families sacrifice to live within their means. They deserve a government that does the same.

So tonight, I am proposing that starting this year, we freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years.”

2012: “When it comes to the deficit, we’ve already agreed to more than $2 trillion in cuts and savings. But we need to do more, and that means making choices. Right now, we’re poised to spend nearly $1 trillion more on what was supposed to be a temporary tax break for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans. “

GOVERNMENT

2010: “In this new decade, it’s time the American people get a government that matches their decency; that embodies their strength.”

2011: “We shouldn’t just give our people a government that’s more affordable. We should give them a government that’s more competent and more efficient. We can’t win the future with a government of the past.”

2012: “The greatest blow to confidence in our economy last year didn’t come from events beyond our control. It came from a debate in Washington over whether the United States would pay its bills or not. Who benefited from that fiasco?”

CHINA

2010: “Washington has been telling us to wait for decades, even as the problems have grown worse. Meanwhile, China is not waiting to revamp its economy. Germany is not waiting. India is not waiting. These nations — they’re not standing still. These nations aren’t playing for second place.”

2011: “Nations like China and India realized that with some changes of their own, they could compete in this new world. Romney Gave 15% to Charity, Obama 1%, Biden $370

Democrats are never afraid to spend other peoples money, but they are stingy with their own money. There is a study done by a liberal finding if liberals were more charitable than conservatives. In amazement, the study showed conservative Republicans were more charitable than liberal Democrats. By the way, Democrat Vice-President Joe Biden gave $370 to charity in 2011.

When will this insanity stop?

In a story that’s gotten sparse national attention, students at new Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah selected “Cougars” as their school mascot and team nickname. The school board, however, has overridden their decision, citing complaints from some parents, and is imposing the nickname “Chargers” instead. The primary complaint?

The term “cougar” might offend middle-aged women who like to date younger men.

Yes, when someone tells us they’re rooting for the Cougars, don’t we all immediately assume they’re hoping Demi Moore shows up? I’m frankly disturbed that it even occurred to anybody, much less that it put such a burr under their saddle that they complained about it. Is this how thin our overly-P.C. sensitive skin has become?

Let me put this in perspective. Twelve colleges call their teams the Cougars. Here in Texas, where high school football is king, I count 26 schools whose teams take the field under the banner of Cougars. In other words, it’s a pretty common mascot. These P.C. nazis in Utah make it sound like the kids wanted to call their team the "N*ggers," which of course is patently offensive, and would never be acceptable; but the N-word has no other meaning or connotation. In other parts of the world, rape victims are convicted of adultery and stoned to death. Yet here in the land of the free and—ironic drumroll, please—the home of the brave, we worry about things like whether the choice of a nickname that everybody understands refers to a big cat is somehow going to offend someone.

At least we have our priorities in order.

And I don’t buy the Board’s secondary excuse that other Utah schools also use “Cougars,” and the name plus the school’s colors of blue, silver, and white are too close to those of BYU. High schools mimicking major college programs’ nicknames and color schemes is nothing new or controversial. Here in Texas we have 12 high schools duplicating the University of Texas’ “Longhorns,” with four of them also using Texas’ colors of orange and white. The board is simply trying to cover their obvious cowardly cow-towing to stupid P.C. pressure.

This crusade against team names and mascots that might hurt someone's feelings has been around a long time. In 2005 the NCAA finally succumbed to the P.C. blitzkrieg and cited 18 member institutions for having “hostile or abusive” mascots, all but ordering the schools to drop them. The NCAA may actually have had a point in cases like the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savages, where the nickname itself has an inherently derogatory connotation (not unlike the N-word). But in other instances such as the Florida State Seminoles (eventually granted an exemption) and the North Dakota Fighting Sioux the nicknames were nothing more than respectful references to groups of people with direct and obvious connections to their states’ history, similar to the Oklahoma Sooners, the West Virginia Mountaineers, or the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Alas, common sense gives way to knee-jerk overcorrection, and we take a sledgehammer to a gnat.

So American Indian references (regardless of taste or historical context) are taboo as choices for school team nicknames, and now they’re coming after predatory animals. What’s next? If we’re going to indulge in this level of silliness, let’s carry it to its logical conclusion. Here are some other nicknames/mascots—yes, all the examples below are real—that are also going to have to go the way of the do-do bird, lest we bruise someone’s tender sensibilities:

Fighting Irish, Fighting Scots, Ragin’ Cajuns suggest that people of Irish or Scottish descent or descended from French-Canadian immigrants to Louisiana have bad tempers.
Flying Dutchmen suggests that people from Holland take drugs.
Pirates, Buccaneers, Raiders, Marauders, Vandals promote crime.
Matadors promotes animal cruelty and offends PETA.
Camels promotes smoking.
Orediggers might offend younger women who like to date older wealthy men.
Sharks might offend local men who like to date tourist women—fins to the left—and certain urban bankers.
Rainbow Warriors might offend men who like to date other men.
Red Foxes might offend attractive women, and fans of Sanford & Son.
Mules might offend stubborn old people.
Blue Hens, Badgers might offend nagging housewives.
Quakers, Friars, Deacons, Saints, Bishops might offend atheists.
Crusaders might offend Muslims.
Red Devils, Blue Devils, Sun Devils might offend Satan-worshippers.
Huskies might offend big-boned people.
Patriots might offend people in other countries.
Coons (no joke—Frisco HS, Frisco, Texas) might offend rednecks or blacks.
Thoroughbreds discriminates against people of mixed heritage.
Spartans makes light of poor people.
Cavaliers makes light of casual or indifferent people.
Ramblin’ Wreck makes light of people with crappy cars.
Steers might upset men who have lost their testicles to cancer or injury.
Longhorns, Bulls, Stags, Bucks, Rams, Goats, Ducks, Bison, Buffaloes might upset vegans.
Cornhuskers, Aggies might upset those with gluten allergies.
Black Knights might upset people with flesh wounds.
Crimson, Cardinal, Orange, Mean Green, Maroons, Big Green, Big Red might upset people who are color-blind.
Volunteers might upset Bill Clinton.
Lions, Tigers, Bears might upset Wizard of Oz aficionados.
Gamecocks, Beavers might upset prudes.
Trojans—do I really have to explain?

As you can see, this zeal to avoid offending people quickly devolves into the absurd, and it doesn’t leave much left from which to choose. But we could go further. Given that team nicknames and even school colors really only serve to distinguish one group of people from another, shouldn’t they ALL be done away with as inherently discriminatory/divisive? While we’re at it, there are any number of school fight songs that include demeaning or even violent references to rival institutions—why, some might even call them “hate speech”—that have no place in our genteel modern society. In fact, now that I think about it, sporting contests by their very nature stigmatize the loser, so shouldn’t we stop the games altogether and encourage students instead to engage peacefully with their colleagues at other schools in friendly sing-alongs and maybe some group interpretive dance?

Somewhere, this silliness has to stop. It’s like we’ve put ourselves into a giant version of Twister where you not only have to stay on the dots, but you can’t touch another player or they’ll bruise beyond recognition. We’re eventually going to become so soft that the Iranians aren’t going to need a nuclear weapon to whip us; Ahmedinejad is simply going to call us the pussies that we’ve become, and we’ll drown in our own tears crying over our hurt feelings.

Life is a contact sport, folks. At some point we all have to grow a little bit of callous, and as Dennis Miller ranted on this very subject in 1994, do everyone else the courtesy of not treating them like they're a Faberge egg. Language is an imperfect tool. There’s always going to be a way to twist words into something someone somewhere could find a little offensive if they really try. We have to have the common sense to distinguish between words with a primary meaning that is overtly and deliberately hurtful on the one hand, and those that in their common usage have an obvious and universally understood meaning that has absolutely nothing to do with whatever special interest group might twist them to find them offensive.

A cougar is a cougar. A big freaking cat. Get over it.

I am very afraid there is no one vying for America’s leadership today any stronger as a national or world leader.

In a recent column, Thomas Sowell said: “The 2012 Republican primaries may be a rerun of the 2008 primaries, where the various conservative candidates split the conservative vote so many ways that the candidate of the mushy middle got the nomination – and then lost the election.” I think he pegged it.” (SOURCE)

I have watched intently as the GOP goes all out to lose the 2012 election to Obama and the democrats. I continue to be puzzled, or as we used to say in the south – “bumfuzzled” – by what MUST be a concerted effort to lose the next election.

Pardon me, if I show my befuddlement … because I just don’t get it.

A sense of “doom” has already set in among the legions of conservative voters in the south. Their sense that the hierarchy of the Republican Party is so completely detached from the reality on the ground (at least here in states of the old south) has been, (they feel) proved absolutely true.

There is a growing sense of “why bother” to go to the polls and vote when the election is already lost to Obama.

Look. I am no more intelligent that the average guy. And I have seen the great wave of exhilaration and expectation of victory crash against a shoreline of mediocre candidates that have proved more an embarrassment than anything else. That great wave has been diminished to a mere ripple in an isolated tide pool.

If you want to know what’s going on in your community – go to the community barbershop. I did that yesterday. Turns out, my barber has been taking a very unscientific poll on who his patrons would vote for in the GOP Primary here in North Carolina (currently scheduled for May). He has been polling since the South Carolina Primary. The results are interesting and informative.

My barber told me that, to a man, every single patron stated they would vote for Gingrich in May.

My community is heavily Democratic and heavily conservative.

I pressed to learn who those would-be primary voters thought would win the election in November. The answer, to a man, was … Obama.

For months now we have warned that if the GOP is counting on conservative voters to vote for the nominee, whomever the nominee turns out to be, then – the GOP is very wrong. Sure, there will be SOME conservative voters who would cast a vote for, well, anybody, just to vote against Obama. But I am not hearing that sentiment expressed here.

Here’s what I THINK is happening:

Southern voters have concluded that Romney cannot win. Southern voters just don’t like the man. They are satisfied that Gingrich will not win the nomination, so they feel it is safe to support and vote for Gingrich if for no other reason than Gingrich brings a little fire, fervor, passion, and a little excitement to an otherwise hum-drum campaign that is already a lost cause.

The more debates, the more infighting, the more defecation is tossed into the fan blades, the more damage will be done the eventual republican nominee. It is already bad enough, but it is sure to get worse.

So, I wonder if it is time to turn our attention to the candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives and redouble our efforts to claim more governorships for conservatives and stop wasting our time and effort on a predetermined race for the GOP nominee for President.

I am neither an optimist nor a pessimist. I am a realist. With me the glass is neither half full nor half empty. It is simply the wrong size glass.

This is developing; it really could be factual considering the proceedings that were held today.

This guy is pretty straight shooting, so I assume that... Well I guess we will see. At this point it is just on the word of a few bloggers who were there.

To me -- being totally unbiased ;) -- they seem credible, but I have learned to not give something my stamp of approval until it hits the mainstream media.

True or not, the have to confirm and affirm before they print it.

Either way, history has been made today!

I just got off the phone with Dean Haskins who was in the courtroom this morning assisting with the Art 2Pac live stream. Judge Malihi talked to the attorneys in chambers before the hearing this morning and told them that he was going to enter a DEFAULT JUDGMENT against Obama and recommend that Obama's name not be on the Georgia ballot! All of the attorneys expressed a desire to put an abbreviated streamlined case on the record and the judge agreed.

How does the mainstream media spin this?

The Georgia SOS has already indicated that he will follow the judge's recommendation. That means that Obama will not get any popular vote or electors from the great state of Georgia!

Congratulations to all freedom-loving Americans!

UPDATE from Birtherreport.com: If this turns out to be true... It is pretty big. Other states that have been reluctant may now proceed with legal precedent that validates the issue.

However, the way I understand it, this alone can't keep him out of office. But if a few key states do likewise, someone like Clinton could jump in and beat him in delegates.

The Judge pulled the lawyers for the three cases into chambers before it all began and advised them that he would be issuing a default judgment in our favor, since the Defense council failed to show, and wanted to end it there. We argued that all the evidence needed to be entered in to record so the Judge allowed for a speedy hearing where all evidence was entered into the court record. What that means is this… Any appeal, if one is even possible, would be based on the evidence provided by the lawyers in each case. Both Van Irion and My lawyer, Mark Hatfield made certain that our cases and evidence in those two cases would be closed so as not to be affiliated, in any way, with “Birther” Orly Taitz. As expected, she was an embarrassment.

Now we’re merely awaiting the publishing of this Judge’s ruling which, as previously stated, will be a Default Judgment. - Carl

As of now I have heard no government official, or no major news outlet confirm that there has been a default ruling. Just a few bloggers who say they were there. Still waiting...

Oh my! You have to watch the first #5 where an expert is calling the SSN a fake that was made from a dead person from 1890, and then a computer expert is saying the on line certificate is a fake. Why is this not all over the news? This is over a sitting United States President!

Today’s proceedings generally were about the Natural Born Citizen clause of the Constitution, and more specifically about Obama’s eligibility to be on Georgia’s 2012 Presidential Election state ballot. Three separate challenges were made to said eligibility, including one by “birther” rock star Orly Taitz. It is safe to say that history was made today.

Big shocker: Obama did not even show up today. Guess he was too busy campaigning in Nevada and Colorado for his re-election bid. Heck, he didn’t even bother to send his attorney Mr. Michael Jablonski to deliver the necessary documents to the courthouse. But apparently, a lot of concerned Americans did show up, as the Atlanta courthouse was crowded.

To recap what has happened with this case during the past few weeks, Mr. Jablonski has tried very hard to stop this case one way or another. First he attempted to have the case dismissed, then he said it simply was not relevant to the president, then he argued that as the law stands the states do not actually have the power to determine who appears on their individual ballots (yeah, and the Pope is a Muslim), and finally said that his client was simply too preoccupied with his responsibilities as President to give a damn about the case. In short, he found himself continually having to change the story of his client.

However, the Georgia court rejected every one and all of these excuses. Just yesterday, Mr. Jablonski sent out a letter to the secretary of state in which he declared that the case was simply not to be heard and that he and his client would effectively boycott these proceedings. Hours later, Mr. Brian Kemp, Secretary of the Great State of Georgia, responded by saying that Obama and Jablonski were free to not show up at court but would nevertheless be doing so at their own peril.

Of course, Mr. Kemp is wrong since Obama is the president, right? Shouldn’t he be above the law? I mean, it is pretty likely that someone like you or I would get away with behaving like them if we were subpoenaed to appear in court, right?

Court was in session at 9 am sharp; proceedings began with the judge meeting privately with all attorneys associated with the case (you know, at least those who showed up) for more than twenty minutes. According to various sources, he told them that since Obama was not present that he would be issuing a default judgment in their favor; he also initially wanted to end the case right then and there. However, the attorneys insisted on holding speedy hearings in which witnesses could testify and evidence would be entered into the court’s records. The judge honored their request.

Much of the evidence presented in court today was obtained with the help of several Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Among evidence entered into the court’s records: Obama’s digital “birth certificate” placed on the whitehouse.gov website, his father’s place of birth (Kenya), a few pages from Obama’s memoir “Dreams From My Father” in which he mentions that his father’s passport had been revoked (and subsequently could not leave Kenya”, and Immigration Services documents about Obama Sr.

Van Irion, one of the attorneys went into more detail about the Natural Born Citizen clause of the Constitution, citing the decision reached in the 1875 US Supreme Court Minor vs. Happersett. Using visual aids and copies of the Court’s decision, Mr. Irion distinguishes the term “citizen” from “natural born citizen.” It is explained that the 14th Amendment does not change the meaning of a natural born citizen, and that any and all lower court verdicts do not conflict with that specific Supreme Court ruling.

What one should take away from this specific testimony, if not the proceedings in general, is that a natural born citizen has two parents who also citizens of the United States at the time of said citizen’s birth. As Obama Sr. was clearly NOT an American citizen, the case can clearly be made that our president, constitutionally speaking, is not eligible to serve as our president.

Among those who testified was a former law enforcement officer, a state-licensed PI, and an IT/PhotoShop expert. They have concluded that Obama has likely engaged in social security fraud, that his father is NOT an American citizen, and that the official birth certificate released by the Obama Administration in April is fake, beyond a reasonable doubt.

All evidence and testimony has been officially entered into court records. This leaves the door open for similar cases pending or future cases to be brought in other states as well. Also, any appeal (if one is even possible in this case) would have to be based on evidence presented by the lawyers in each case. Plaintiff Carl Swenson said in an e-mail to supporters that both “Van Irion (another plaintiff) and my lawyer Mark Hatfield made certain that our cases and evidence in these two cases would be closed so as not to be affiliated, in any way, with ‘Birther’ Orly Taitz.”

What everyone is awaiting now from the judge is an official publishing of today’s ruling, again a default judgment for the plaintiffs. Swenson says “we won” and that it is now “time for the rest of the States to take my lead and duplicate this effort.”

One question every American should be asking themselves now that these eligbility proceedings in Georgia are over is simply: “who the hell is this guy?”

Although obvious, it is important to note that not even the slightest mention of these proceedings will be heard in the mainstream liberal media. And this is for good reason; they obviously want to protect their guy Obama. When his administration’s lackeys vocally attacked Fox News in 2009, viewership of Fox News did not go down; it skyrocketed. Likewise, if the media tries to attack Orly Taitz, these witnesses, or anyone else associated with these proceedings, the so-called “birther” movement will only get stronger.

Barack Obama has a funny way of reading the Constitution - and we don't just mean because his lips move and he touches himself inappropriately. Rather, it's his interpretations of Constitutional language which are funny - though definitely not in the "ha-ha" way.

Most recently, this has been demonstrated by his radical new claim that abortion-on-demand is a clear Constitutional right because the "pursuit of happiness" for women can apparently only occur if they can easily kill any potential children resulting from one night stands.

According to Obama, we must "continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams." Unless, of course, those daughters aren't quite full-term yet...in which case they're not guaranteed Life, Liberty, or the Pursuit of Happiness, but will at least get one visit to Benihana.

Interestingly and, we're sure, entirely coincidentally a questionable new study has just been released (and much publicized) stating that abortions are much safer than actually giving birth. Except, of course, for the tiny little people who are killed in 100% of procedures while their moms are pursuing happiness.

It's also important to keep in mind that this is the infant-hating president who previously said of his own daughters, "if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." Were you and Michelle "punished" twice, Mr. Obama? Is that why Michelle recently declared on national television that you two are out of the conception business? (Not that we're not grateful, mind you)

Moreover, this president strongly supports partial birth abortion in which a viable child is almost fully delivered - and then has its head cut off. Not totally sickened yet? Then try this on for size: as a Senator, Barack Obama opposed the "Born Alive Infant Protection Act." Specifically, if a late term abortion went "wrong" and a healthy living baby was born, Obama believes that the state should still have the ability to kill the child.

But what is his cutoff for "post-natal abortion?" An hour? A day? A week? And once precedent has been set, why not make it a year, or 10, or 80? Or simply any age if someone gets in the way of your pursuit of happiness?

With all of that being said, it's time for a bit of Hope n' Change full disclosure: while we are 99% pro-Life, we don't believe in outlawing abortion entirely. We think it should be a States Rights issue...and we especially think that it should be a rare procedure of last resort, considered seriously and soberly, instead of a selfish, nightmarish, and all too common form of government encouraged birth control.

If Obama wants to advance his radical views on abortion, he should do it without distorting and destroying the very clear language and intent of our Constitution. Because even though he's successfully leading the charge to deprive millions of children their rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, some children will continue to be born in this country.

Only without the Constitution, it won't be a country worth living in.

Christie announced the nominations at a Statehouse news conference attended by both nominees and their families. If confirmed, Bruce A. Harris would become New Jersey’s first openly gay justice, and Phillip H. Kwon would become its first Asian representative and the first person born outside the United States to be sworn in.

“I am proud to be standing here today to announce two historic nominations to the New Jersey State Supreme Court,” Christie said, expressing “extreme confidence in their records and respect for their intellect.”

Esquire’s 79 Things We Can All Agree On – More Mainstream Media Left-Wing Bias

I admit it. I didn’t purchase the Feb. 2012 issue of Esquire Magazine. President Bill Clinton’s on the cover, joined by a headline, 79 Things We Can All Agree On, so I immediately grasped the direction of the article inside. Sure enough… this is another example of the elite media trying to convince us of some sort of opinionated consensus, and left-wing media bias.

Eric Stoner’s blog also contains a post on this topic – written yesterday, Jan. 23, 2012. He lists more of Esquire’s things than I, and his post seems less partisan than mine, so you may get a more comprehensive feel for the article if you check it out, too. Stoner seems more middle-of-the-road than me, but I did agree with a few of Esquire’s things. However, I abhor snob fests like this one, disagreed with most of their selections, and I list the objectionable ones, which I feel are examples of left-wing media bias, here:

The 11th thing says, “Obama has accomplished more in his 1st three years than any of his predecessors. The president enjoyed a House and Senate majority, so he should have accomplished more, but I believe he didn’t. Yes, he got Bin Laden, but he accomplished only negative things, and almost nothing constructive. Go ahead, I dare you, name two, and post them below, in the comments section.

The 26th says, “Tina Fey is a national treasure. Hardly. She created a sometimes funny, but false, nasty, and biased impression of Sarah Palin, causing many liberals to quote her (and not Palin), “I can see Russia from my house.” Fey said it, Palin didn’t.

The 28th through 30th idolize a columnist/blogger, who writes for a left-leaning newspaper, The Washington Post. “Ezra Klein gives economics columnists/bloggers a good name. It’s a shock that Ezra Klein is just 27 years old. Take a look at his blog and see for yourself. It would be more of a shock if Esquire liked anything or anyone who is conservative. Not gonna happen!

The 35th thing says, “The New York Times is the only essential newspaper left. Conservatives know that The Times is around only to give the mainstream media its liberal talking points. Next!

The 57th thing says, “In retrospect the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are the greatest mistakes our country has made in our lifetimes.” The biggest mistake we made was electing a socialist to the presidency. I hope it never happens again.

The 58th thing says, “Most people really shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a handgun.” Perhaps I shouldn’t, because I am not experienced with guns. However, those who are trained and practiced in the handling of firearms should be allowed to handle them, and more. At any rate, I take offense at the suggestion that someone might want to remove this constitutional freedom of choice for Americans. Shame on liberals, they always speak about being so pro-choice…

The 61st thing says, “…scripted dramatic TV is the most satisfying of all the entertainment media.” Typical elite drivel, and opinionated nonsense.

The 71st thing says, “We can all agree to hate a few things, such as…” They list 15 examples, and I agree with Mr. Stoner here, there are a few for everyone here, and I strongly disagreed with two. However, I disagree to hate anything. That’s only for the left!

Out here in the state of Washington our current Governor, Christine Gregoire has decided not to run for a third term. Early on in her time as governor she was a typical tax and spend liberal, boosted by a majority in the state legislature. While at one time, the state did have a surplus, the tax and spend policies of controlling democrat party have put our state’s finances in jeopardy with billions in shortfalls over the past couple of years.

Gregoire has done a decent job of trying to balance the state budget as constitutionally required, but there have been occasions where I thought she could have done more to make deeper cuts. For example, she has asked for a 20% cut in senior citizen programs, but has only asked for a 4% cut in the Department of Ecology. She also proposed a nearly 10% cut in programs for developmentally disabled programs, but has requested full funding for state employee salary increases. Nothing like kowtowing to those who get you elected.

Just recently Gregoire has come out in support of gay marriage, despite the fact that Washington State enjoys probably the most liberal policy regarding domestic partnerships in the nation, short of the actual marriage certificate. Her stated support has heated up the debate in the state legislature that is seriously considering a bill that would allow same-sex marriages. Just the other day, State Senator Mary Haugen, who is a democrat in a conservative-leaning district, has decided to be the 25th Senator to support same-sex marriage. Makes me wonder if the Washington state Republican Party apparatus is going to consider running a candidate against her. While the district has conservative leanings, it has reelected her time and time again. Maybe it is time for the folks of her district to rethink their support.

Anyways, since Gregoire is not running for a third term, into the “elect me” fray steps State Attorney General Rob McKenna, a west coast Republican (conservative on taxing and budgets, liberal on social issues). McKenna has been part of the class action suit filed against Obama Care and he has been a champion of tighter budget cuts and tax cuts. However, on the social issues side, he is a strong supporter of equal rights for gays and lesbians, going as far as to support same-sex domestic partnerships.

“My private view is that domestic partners and same sex (couples) ought to enjoy all the rights – the legal rights to inherit, to visit each other in the hospital, the whole panoply of rights – but my view of marriage is based on my religious faith. And so I have a hard time getting there,” McKenna said (Source: Seattle PI)

As might be expected by a party that is in desperate straits, nationwide at least, they have bent and twisted the truth to fit their needs. McKenna is in a closely watched and contested race for the governor’s mansion against democrat Jay Inslee. In a state that is heavily democrat, especially in Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, the fact the McKenna has the lead in many polls has the democrats scrambling for anything they can get their hands on. Note the quote above from McKenna. His stance is quite liberal. He supports giving all rights to same sex couples, other than that little piece of paper that is a marriage certificate. This would be called the whole nine yards. But it isn’t quite far enough for a group of people who wouldn’t dream of compromise and whose idea of compromise is their way or the highway.

“Rob McKenna believes that same-sex couples don’t deserve equal rights,” alleges democratic Chairman Dwight Pelz, in a email appeal sent out hours after marriage equality gained majority support in the State Senate.

“In fact, he (McKenna) has fought to preserve discrimination in state law and has even gone so far as to equate marriage equality to polygamy and incest,” Pelz charges. (Source: Seattle PI)

Talk about bending and twisting facts to suit your needs! As pointed out above, McKenna is on record as supporting equal rights for gays and lesbians, but just not marriage. He was a supporter of, and a voter for, a referendum that gave same-sex couples all the rights that DOMA-protected marriages enjoy. But that isn’t enough for these radical groups. No compromise, my way or the highway, if you’re not with us, you’re against us; that is the mentality of these groups. What is wrong with the compromise that we have now? Same-sex couples can now inherit their partner’s estate, they can visit and sign documents in the hospital, be listed on worker benefit plans, plus all the other benefits that traditional marriages enjoy. Why don’t these groups see this as a compromise? Why don’t they feel that supporters of traditional marriage have moved a great deal way from their sincerely held beliefs? Isn’t that what compromise is? Each group gives a little? Traditionalists have given a great deal. What have the progressives given in the matter?
