This chart pretty much sums up what they did.
In one fell swoop those conservative networks that took three years to build were scrambled with the roll-out of the new Facebook news feed. Now instead of people getting updates from the thousands of people or pages they have "Liked or Friended," they only get what Facebook calls "Top News." To stay clued in as before, you would have to go to each of your individual friends or their political pages and click the "receive all update button." This is an impossible task, because there is no way to track which friends you have marked to receive everything. By the time you fixed it, the 2012 election would be over.
This has had a devastating effect on the conservative blogosphere. Blogs that rely on Facebook updates, have seen a 90% drop in hits.
The result is much like the chaos after the fall on the Tower of Babel, in that you know the people are still out there but you just can't communicate with them in the same way.
I believe that Facebook is in the tank for Obama, and have done this purposely to help him get re-elected.
But they have made a mistake by rolling it out too early. There is still time for conservatives to beef back up their Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon accounts that they have neglected and at the very least mark "receive everything," on the major conservative news sources.
Let's start rebuilding our networks.
