Why do I feel like the argument against McDonald’s sounds like, “Ronald McDonald is evil and wants children to die! That smile is not out of joy but out of sadistic pleasure of watching the innocent unknowingly eat themselves to death!”
Yeah, whatever. McDonald’s cannot give away toys with the purchase of a Happy Meal but can sell the toys separately.
To counteract this McDonald’s now sells the toys and for ten cents extra you can receive a Happy Meal.
Pause for the sound of liberalism generating the opposite of its stated intent (aka Jim Quinn’s First Law).
This perfectly illustrates that business will find loopholes to conduct operations as it normally would. If there is a loophole that requires abnormal actions but results in a lower cost than not, who wouldn’t go for that? It’s awfully similar to how banks lent out subprime loans to increase their Community Reinvestment Act rating. Thanks government!
Money, water and electricity always take the path of least resistance. What we don’t need is more asinine laws like this one. The answer is not more regulation but less. Regulation is not common sense; it is the abandoning of common sense and putting your trust in the hands of people who care more about getting re-elected than about you.
Businesses act in their self interest, which is making you happy because you exchange money for their product when you are. Until you are ready to put your money where your mouth is, business are going to assume that you are happy if you keep buying their stuff.
We don’t need government to level the playing field; we need people to be personally accountable.
When you kid wants junk food, just say no. I wish that when I was a kid I could just annoy the heck out of my parents until they gave in. What’s more, did anyone have parents like this? Are the kids bullying the parents?
No, the parents simply want a scapegoat for their children being obese. Look in the mirror and you will find the culprit.
