Guns Across America Rallies Support For 2nd Amendment

If one were to believe gun control advocates, one would come to the conclusion that those of us who are strong supporters of the 2nd Amendment are nothing but a lot of gun-crazy, law-breaking, and unruly citizens who believe the government is out to take our guns. To hear them tell it, all they want to do is reinstate the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines (high-capacity is considered to be anything over 10 rounds). We have nothing to fear, or so they say. The assault weapon and high-capacity magazine bans are nothing more than common sense measures that will help reduce gun violence, or so we are told. Never mind that the bans would have done absolutely nothing to prevent the two latest mass shootings.

I wrote recently about how President Obama accused advocates of the 2nd Amendment of "ginning up fear" among the population. It's very close to how he and his friends in the liberal media attacked the Tea Party, after it emerged as a force in the debate over health care reform. They accused the Tea Party of inciting violence, even though nothing could have been further from the truth. Even before that, President Obama accused many of us of "clinging to our guns and our religion". One could easily get the idea that our President cares very little for those of us who consider ourselves to be conservative.

One of the President's main talking points going into this debate has been to attack the NRA. They are one of the organizations he has accused of ginning up fear. It is something he is fond of doing to any group or organization who dares oppose him or his agendas. He is very good at demonizing his opponents, something to which Mitt Romney can well attest. I would suggest that his attacks on the NRA may not be so well received.
(Hot Air) These attacks have been in a repeating pattern which is too consistent to be coincidence and was probably predictable. The NRA is described as a “fringe” organization. Polls are cited which intend to make their positions seem extreme. Of course, the phrasing of many of the poll questions leaves little to the imagination. If you ask people if they are “in favor of ex-felons being able to stroll into gun shows and buy hundreds of military style assault weapons with no background check” you’ll get some pretty spectacular results. However, Gallup stuck with something a little more basic.
What is your overall opinion of the National Rifle Association, also known as the NRA? Favorable – Unfavorable.
When you phrase it like that the picture becomes a bit clearer. This ties back into the previous point about how opponents are choosing to attack the organization. The other common accusation making the rounds on Scarborough’s show and others is that “the NRA doesn’t represent American gun owners. They work for gun manufacturers who make millions of dollars selling these weapons.” It’s a fairly clever bit of marketing, since it ties in that whole resentment of the 1% thing with yet another wedge to drive between the members and the organization. Fortunately – at least for now – it doesn’t seem to be sinking in.
As he is prone to do, President Obama has worked to get support for his agenda of gun control. He has to know he has little to no chance of any kind of gun control law being passed in this Congress, so he is fully expected to go outside of Washington, straight to the American people. Rest assured, he will be in full campaign mode and if we are to believe what the media tells us, he already has the support of a majority of Americans. I would contend he has no such thing.

You may be familiar with the 2nd Amendment rallies that took place on Saturday, all across America. Organized by Guns Across America, the rallies were meant to show just how strongly the American people support the rights granted to us by God and affirmed by the 2nd Amendment. From the accounts I have read, the rallies were a success, with thousands of 2nd Amendment supporters showing up at different locations in at least 47 states. It should be duly noted that the rallies were all peaceful, with no reports of violence or other problems.
(The Blaze) Texas resident William Lawson drove more than four hours to attend the rally with his family. Once there, they held a sign reading “Modern Musket” over the image of an assault rifle and the words, “An American Tradition since 1776.” “I’m not some wild-eyed person who wants to fight in the streets,” Lawson said. “This is a country of laws. But I want to protect our Constitution.” Authorities reported no problems at early rallies, which remained peaceful Saturday afternoon.
Here are a few pictures of some of the events from around the country. The people who attended these rallies look like a lot of ordinary Americans to me. They could be my neighbors, or yours. All they want is the rights that are due them. There is nothing wrong with that.
