Today Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortion butcher, got three consecutive life sentences for the cruel murders of 3 babies that were born alive after botched late-term abortions. The cruelty and pictures will haunt decent people for years to come. The sick Doctor, made disgusting jokes, and showed a lamentable lack of concern for the tiny humans he killed. He made sick jokes about the size of one baby in particular, a baby born at 30 weeks alive. He joked that the baby was big enough to walk to the bus, as he severed its spinal cord by brutally cutting its neck as it whimpered.
The Fallout from the trial continues. To date, 9 members of staff were convicted in the case, and 4 others plead guilty to murder. The Philadelphia abortion clinic, dubbed the “house of horrors”, hid a horrible murderous secret. No one knew because the place was not routinely inspected, and in truth the truth only came out because of suspicion of illegal drugs. In 2010 when the charges were filed a confident Gosnell was certain that he would be “vindicated” and spoke of himself as some type of minority hero. “I wanted to be an effective, positive force in the minority community,” Instead, he murdered, and used unsanitary equipment and untrained staff to kill hundreds of babies. He also contributed to the death of a woman, and was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in her death.
The consecutive life sentences offer no chance of parole for Gosnell, who is 72 and will spend the rest of his life in prison. Gosnell was also convicted of violated hundreds of abortion laws, and now will face federal drug prosecution. The Prosecutor initially wanted to seek the death penalty, but realized that it is unlikely that Gosnell would live to be executed, so he made a deal for the life sentences. Ironically, Gosnell passed up a better deal that was offered back when he was first charged, because he expected to win.
This case has highlighted some serious faults with the abortion industry’s regulations, and several undercover operations have exposed the fact that other abortion clinics are willing to let a baby that is born alive following an abortion die without trying to save its life. That is a clear violation of law. Also highlighted are the poor regulations and infrequent inspections. Apparently clinics that perform abortions aren’t regulated as medical facilities. For what reason, I am not sure. In fact in most states, tattoo parlors are regulated more stringently, and health departments in one state admitted that no Planned Parenthood facility had been inspected in 15 years prior to the Gosnell case.
I am very happy that Gosnell will never see the light of day as a free man again. I think he likely deserved to be convicted of more murders than he was, but I will take three life sentences. It is a good start. It is time we recognized these clinics for what they are. They are not there to help women. They are mills that churn out assembly line abortions, without very much care for the woman. They perform abortions up to 24 weeks, and if the baby somehow survives they let it die. I personally would like to see abortion be gone. However, if we can’t do that, the very least we can do is make sure that monsters like Kermit Gosnell are gotten out of the industry. Sadly, though many have claimed he was an exception to the rule, and that things like that didn’t happen much, increasing scrutiny has proved otherwise.
Hopefully, this gruesome case will haunt people for years. Its time America wakes up to the infanticide committed on a daily basis while a benevolent society smiles its approval.
