Even though you don’t go out looking for such things, you cannot help but run across articles or videos, written or made by some person that claims to be representing some group of people suffering from oppression. These groups range from the ones that might immediately come to mind (like African Americans), to ones you may not have even known existed just a few years earlier, like transgendered individuals.
Although there is a wide variation of people that make up these groups, it seems like the people who claim to represent them invariably, have three things in common:
- They’re liberals.
- They want their problems to be solved by society making them some sort of concession in the name of "social justice".
- They blame their situations on, and speak of the unfairness of, white male privilege.
Although these people disagree with conservatives in general, they could never disagree with these three things. They proudly admit the first, and base all of their other arguments on the second two.
Unfortunately for them, the problems they (and the people that they claim to represent), face will never go away, or even be reduced, because of these three things.
If liberalism solved problems, then Detroit and other large cities would be the most attractive places to live. What other examples do we need to discredit liberalism entirely?
It’s human nature to want what people have, but simply taking from those who have more is not a realistic long term solution. It is a disincentive for both the people on the giving and receiving end. With trillions, yes trillions, spent on wealth transfer payments in this country over the years, wouldn’t the problem of poverty be at least somewhat alleviated by now?
Why do people hold on to such ideas when everyday, it becomes more and more obvious that not only do they not work, but they actually harm the very people that are intended to help? There are two reasons.
First of all, it’s not their (or at least they don’t realize that it’s partially their) money that they’re in favor of spending. They would never keep spending their own money on something that didn’t work. If they took their car to a mechanic that couldn’t fix their problem, not only would they switch mechanics, they would be demanding their money back. They are realistic when they're dealing with their own money.
What they don’t realize is that there is an opportunity cost of wasted government money. That money could have been spent on things that would have promoted economic growth, the very thing that would have helped the poor and disadvantaged the most.
The second reason is that they’re blinded by envy. Tax money comes mostly from “rich white people”, and that alone is enough for them to justify spending it, regardless of whether it produces the desired outcomes.
They blame all their problems on “the privileged white male”, but want to confiscate his earnings as means to solve all their problems. “Mom what does irony mean?”
Did it ever occur to the people who disparage it (even if only as an intellectual and hypothetical exercise), that what they call “white male privilege” may have been earned?
By definition, groups of people tend to stick together, geographically, culturally, or both. It is the reason that various groups of people evolved in the first place. Individuals with tend to look out for, be motivated by, and emulate others within their group. This alone should explain why some groups have been more successful than others, but it doesn’t explain why white males have been so successful, that others consider them to be privileged.
Let’s look at white male privilege. For the sake of argument, let’s assume that it exists. Where did it come from? How long has it existed? Is it a bad thing? Can it only occur at the expense of others?
Is privilege something that just fell out of the sky and white males were just lucky enough to be the ones for it to land on? Or was it something else?
To answer these questions, we must go back to a time and place when everyone would agree that white privilege did not exist, medieval Europe. White privilege could not have existed there and then, because whites made up 100% of the population. Being white did not set one apart from anyone else. Strangely enough, the conditions of medieval Europe were closer to what liberals claim to be ideal, than almost every other time or place. With the exception of kings and noblemen, almost everyone was equal. Equally miserable, that is. The life of a serf was basically one of mere existence and day to day survival. No one got ahead because no one was able to produce much of anything of value beyond what was necessary to keep themselves alive. Any additional value that was produced, was taken by the kings and noblemen, assuring that the serfs would never attain a higher standard of living.
Things slowly began to change as various things were invented that increased productivity. As these inventions became more commonplace, the need arose for people to become specialized in the manufacture and repair of these items. The farmers produced more, the people with specialized skills earned more, and the upward spiral of invention, production, and increased incomes began.
People started to earn enough to not only satisfy the demands of government, but also began to accumulate real wealth of their own. This gave them the luxury of free time, and the ability to appreciate something their ancestors hadn’t had to give much thought. Freedom.
If you have to work every waking hour just to feed yourself, it doesn’t make much difference whether you are a prisoner or a free man. Life is pretty much the same for both. Freedom only really matters if you can take advantage of it.
Once the common man had some free time, he could delve into areas once reserved only for the elite. More and more people learned how to read and write, which increased both communication and education. This further accelerated the upward spiral of invention and wealth creation, allowing people to take even more of an advantage of what freedom had to offer. People began to question authoritarian governments and the days of the European monarchs’ absolute power were numbered. The rest, of course is history, literally.
I suppose that this could have happened anywhere, but it happened in Europe. The rest of the world for the most part, remained stagnant and changed little for the next few hundred years, and then only because it was spurred on by Europe.
Europeans not only had a five hundred year technological head start on everyone else, they were hundreds of years ahead of the rest of the world culturally, as well. Once they tasted it, Europeans insatiable appetite for freedom grew stronger to the point where no form of government in existence at that time could offer enough. This gave rise to colonization in the new world and United States of America, an entire country dedicated to the freedom of the individual. To this day, the rest of the world still hasn’t caught up. (With the possible exception of some Asian countries like Japan and South Korea. China, only recently has started to move, and that is directly correlated to the increasing freedom of its people.)
Individuals can quickly adapt to take full advantage of the resources and opportuntiies around them, (which explains why you can find successful people who come from every corner of the globe), cultures cannot, or at least don’t. (Which explains why the world is like it is.)
Europeans have been hundreds of years ahead of everyone else for hundreds of years, at least from a standpoint of freedom, resourcefulness, and inventiveness. It’s part of who they are. They’re programed that way, if not genetically, at least culturally. This is why the vast majority of technological advancements in the last five hundred originated from Europe or the United States.
Just as there is an opportunity cost with spending tax dollars on specific items, there is an opportunity cost with cultural values. Just look at phrases and idioms associated with European and American culture:
- Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
- A penny saved is a penny earned.
- Necessity is the mother of invention.
- Waste not, want not
- A stitch in time, saves nine.
- God helps them who help themselves.
- A fool and his money are soon parted.
- Charity begins at home.
- He who hesitates is lost.
- If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.
- Life is what you make it.
- Make hay while the sun shines.
- Necessity is the mother of invention.
- Strike while the iron is hot.
- The secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage.
- Give me liberty, or give me death.
These type of thoughts become interwoven in the conscience of those who were taught them as they grew up. Such people never even consider subscribing to leftist philosophy. The liberal claptrap of victimization and oppression goes against their very nature. They’re too busy concentrating on how to make their lives, and the lives their families better, by their own hard work and resourcefulness. Asking for handouts, never occurs to them.
Take a look at publications, websites, and videos that cater to any group that claims to be oppressed. You’ll notice a common theme, “The reason your life is not better is because the world is not fair, and the group you belong to deserves some type of compensation, handout, or special consideration in the name of social justice.”
Now look at media whose audience is mostly white males, such as:
- hunting and fishing publications
- auto and motor sports publications
- business and financial publications
- blogs and videos from the manosphere
- and my favorite. Farmshow Magazine http://www.farmshow.com/
With the possible exception of some tongue-in-cheek articles, you won’t find a single “woe is me, life’s unfair” article in any of them. They’re mostly about how you can improve your life, career, or hobby and the futility of depending upon someone else to do that for you. There’s no oppression or victimization garbage here.
“That’s just because white males are privileged, they don’t have anything to complain about!”
Really? Did you ever consider that maybe, they have not allowed themselves to become victims? Becoming a victim in society is the easiest thing one can ever do. All you have to do is... nothing.
Just as one can avoid becoming a victim in crime ridden areas, people can avoid becoming a victim of society, even if they consider themselves predisposed to it. They just need to take the right precautions and appropriate actions.
Go find an article on the web written by a liberal victim of society, and then look up any information they provide about themselves. If you look at their hobbies and interests, you will almost always find that the list is very short and/or filled with things of little practical value.
Now take the biggest redneck piece of white trash you can think of. Here’s what he can do:
- oxy-acetylene cutting
- basic plumbing
- basic electrical wiring
- survive three or more days in the wilderness
- cut down a tree with a chainsaw and make a season’s worth of firewood
- plow snow
- jump start car
- free a vehicle stuck in mud or snow and handle other roadside emergencies
- auto repair
- operate tractors and other types of heavy machinery
- and much, much more
You take a guy like this, add a little advanced education to the mix, and you got a person that no liberal victim can match. Not because they are unable, but because they choose not to, and because of that, they will never be able to catch up. There’s not enough tax money or liberal compassion in the world to replace the benefits produced by an independent person with a strong work ethic.
Whites may look out for their own, but no more than any other ethnic group, so they can’t be singled out for criticism there. In addition, no matter what anyone says, they are not actively trying to deny other people the benefits of assimilating into their culture. It’s been proven time and time again that people who do so, enjoy the same benefits of freedom and hard work as whites do. If there is such a thing as “white male privilege”, it is simply the result of taking maximum advantage of freedom and one's own abilities, and thus it has been earned, by white males' work ethic, and the work ethic of their ancestors. It has not only raised the standard of living for everyone, it produces the tax revenue that liberals so love to spend.
The good news is that such privilege is available to everyone, providing that they are willing to work for it, adopt the values of freedom and resourcefulness, and abandon the liberal values of victimization and social justice. In order to do these things, a person must an outstanding individual (which of course, is something that egalitarians frown upon), but the only people who really want to have better lives, are the ones willing to do whatever it takes to become outstanding.
As far as the male part of the equation is concerned, this is not the result of discrimination against women as much as the result of feminist demeaning the traditional role of women. This has been a benefit to nobody. Contrary to what feminists may tell you, women have always been able to have good jobs and careers. My grandmothers were perfect examples. Women have always been able to achieve great heights, as long as they were outstanding. (There’s that word again.)
Feminists only succeeded in flooding the labor force with women who otherwise wouldn’t have joined by choice. The result of that was increased competition for women who really wanted to have careers, and a dilution of the labor pool. This resulted in lower wages for everyone, not to mention a generation of children brought up in daycare and government run early education, where they missed out on being taught the values we discussed earlier.
With the condition our country is in due to liberal policies (most notably, the national debt), many fear that some type of cataclysm is near. Success and even survival, if such a thing happens, will depend even more upon hard work and resourcefulness than ever. If you believe that there is a good possibility of such a thing happening, and you think that white males enjoy some sort of unfair advantage now, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
