The Laura Ingraham Show - Rick Santorum: Romney one of the most liberal guys we have ever had
@0:52 Raymond Arroyo: You've stated your intention to stay in this race clear through to the convention Rick—'til August. Won't a candidate, any candidate that comes out, and is anointed that late in the game, won't they be hobbled, simply because of the timetable?
Rick Santorum: I would say just the opposite. I think what people don't realize is as soon as we get a nominee, the Obama Administration, the Obama campaign—as well as all of the national media—will turn its guns on whoever our nominee is. And those guns will be trained on someone who will basically be out of money, having just gotten out of these primaries. Let's assume that tomorrow everybody drops out and we have one nominee. Starting the next day the media will train all of their guns, as well as President Obama, on whoever that nominee is. Right now they can't focus on anybody. I make this argument, I've made this argument from the beginning: The longer this argument goes the better it is for us because there's less opportunity for the media to pound the heck out of our nominee.
@3:48 Arroyo: Now you've conceded that you can't win the majority of the delegates, right?
Rick Santorum: No. I haven't conceded that at all. I think we can win the majority of the delegates. That's phony Romney math. We've have all sorts of caucuses that have yet to be held, where the votes were already taken for presidential preference, but we haven't selected delegates yet, and we're going to do much better than the presidential preference poll.
@4:39 Santorum: This race is completely wide open. You have a bunch of super delegates that are officially uncommitted and unbound. You know some may be committing to Romney right now, but that doesn't mean they're going to be there when the convention rolls around and Gov. Romney hobbles into the convention, having lost a bunch of the last primary states, and his inability to close the deal with outspending is opponents ten to one.
@5:43 Santorum: It's funny coming from Mitt Romney who donated to Planned Parenthood and went to fundraisers for Planned Parenthood...this is one of the most liberal guys we have ever had and for him to go out there an attack me as being a moderate is just truly laughable.
@9:30 Santorum: If you look at the states where we just barely lost, had Gingrich not been on the ballot, we would have won all those states. We are having to deal with a candidate who is running a regional campaign, he's running in the Deep South. After Alabama and Mississippi, all of the states that border Georgia would have voted.
@10:06 Arroyo: Gingrich raised the possibility of putting Rick Perry on his ticket and floating that at the convention. Your thoughts on that possibility?
Rick Santorum: I think that's further evidence of desperation, trying to use somebody else to promote your candidacy. You know, last night I met with the Governor of Alabama who said he was going to support me. He's a strong conservative. He's a tea party guy. He said he's going to vote for me today and support me in the race. Those endorsements, if you will, are more important than this speculation of trying to get support because you're going to put someone on the ticket.
