The Leftist Lorax

Obama's EPA

For those who’ve not seen Blue Sky’s The Lorax, beware here are the spoilers: Capitalism is wrong. Industrialism is wrong. Mom is wrong.  And rednecks, especially those who live in RVs, are the lowest of evil in Seussville.

We all know the 70’s Seuss book, "The Lorax" IS environmental guff.  It was made when such thinking was in vogue as it is again.  It’s message is progress is bad.  Do not create.  Do not invent.  With that attitude, 99ers would be living in caves instead of criticizing corporate policy on internet blogs.

Where 99ers would be if Obama's EPA had their way.
After reading the Seuss’s fable, parents may have a hard time explaining to weeping children that the next door neighbor is not evil and actually doing good by pruning his trees.

The negative criticism of the book, "The Lorax", is that it missed even one mention progress and creation is actually good and in fact what mankind strives for.  We, created in God’s image, were made to create.  Even by Seuss’s Jewish God’s standard, the paper he drew on was, after all, made from dead truffula trees.

The real Lorax message is that progress is good, provided replenishing of resources or at least more efficient uses of them.  That criticism is strict, because perhaps reading deeply, you may be able to pull such meaning from the last page being asked to "plant more seeds".  Why 48 pages of “no progress” and a single sentence of “replenish” perhaps is the issue as such bias causes “intelligent” leftists and naive children to miss the point.

The movie shows a more caring Once-ler, who agrees to not cut down truffula trees for the Lorax, until the Once-ler's hillbilly mom suggests a faster means of production is to cut the whole tree down after pointing out Once-ler's redneck brothers can’t produce thneeds fast enough to meet demand doing so according to the Lorax’s rules.

After seeing the movie, parents may have a hard time explaining that Mom is not evil and wrong and people from the south are not stupid.  That’s not a Seuss fable, rather Hollywood’s.  Maybe that’s why “Cars”, the southern NASCAR series is a critical abomination in the world of 3-D animated movies and The Lorax is sure to covet awards.

Again the real point is missed.  Once-ler's Mom and idiot brothers illustrated the message.  The solution is not to ban progress but to do what God created us to do... create.  And like God, do so efficiently.  The solution here is called innovation.

You'll find that solution to also cure the ails of our economy, industry, self-esteem and secure our future as a world power.

And you’ll find that is what Theodor Geisel did when he created the personal “Dr. Seuss” all along.
