I first heard of the study of The Moral Stereotypes of Liberals and Conservatives on the show hosted by Greg Gutfeld, Red Eye. For fun, every conservative and independent thinker with a DVR should record this program several times to understand it. Then decide if you enjoy one of the few hilarious right-wing shows on TV today. You might laugh until you cry, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!
The paper, available to anyone at The Moral Stereotypes of Liberals and Conservatives, addresses some differences between lefties and righties. For example, it states that liberals base their moral foundation upon three sets of values: Liberty, Caring, and Fairness. It also suggests that conservatives use all three for theirs, too, and add three more: Loyalty, Respect for Authority and Tradition, and Sanctity.
The authors of the study asked both groups to predict how the other side would answer questions. Left wing radicals taught me that liberals feel more empathy than conservatives, but scientific experiments reveal the opposite. Conservatives predicted liberal responses more accurately than the other way around! I don’t subscribe to stereotypes, but the ideas developed during the study deserve our attention.
