Important Decisions!
Bill D. Brown
What an important time for our nation! HUGE decisions ahead for our leaders!
On the one hand, we are facing a critical decision in the
Republican party as to whether to de-fund the Affordable Care Act (Talk about a
misnomer!). The moderate Republicans
don’t want to precipitate a government-wide shutdown, because when they did
that several years ago, in the Clinton era, they were crucified in the press,
and it cost them dearly in the next election.
On the other side of this issue are the Tea Party Republicans who assert
that they are only forbidding funding of Obamacare; the Democrats can fund
every other government function—just zero funds for Obamacare. If the Democrats choose to shut down all
government functions, let them go ahead and do that. But
maybe the back-alley media won’t like us!
This is a very important issue.
Then there is the decision as to what to do about Syria’s
use of sarin gas on its own people. Use
of this nerve agent reportedly resulted in over 1400 deaths. Terrible.
Horrible. But over the last two
years of this civil war, more than 100,000 Syrians have been shot, decapitated,
raped, mutilated, bombed and strafed.
What was President Obama’s reaction to those deaths?
Silence.
Oh, he murmured a few platitudes about it being wrong—sort
of on the order of Jesse Jackson remarking that the killing of that Australian
athlete by three young punks in Duncan, Oklahoma is “frowned upon”. Real outrage!
But a year or so ago, our fearless president, speaking off
the teleprompter, said he would consider Syrian use of chemical weapons to be “crossing
a red line”. In other words, this would
bring down the wrath of American military might upon them.
They used gas.
What did President Obama do?
Nothing.
Oh, he promised we would give small arms to the forces
fighting against Assad. He didn’t.
Shall I review the Progressives record on “selling wolf
tickets”? The term, “selling wolf
tickets” is a phrase used by inmates in our penitentiaries, and in plain
English, here is what it means: When you tell someone you are going to knock
him on his ass—you just sold a wolf ticket (like someone telling another, “I’m
the Big Bad Wolf!”)
The person who says, “Don’t tell me you are going to knock
me on my ass unless you are prepared to back it up—because I’m going to make
you prove that you are tough enough to do it!”
You would say that guy BOUGHT one of those “wolf tickets”. Progressives are great sellers of wolf tickets.
What I am going to recount here goes back a ways, but it
helps to explain why the United States is considered a paper, toothless tiger
by most of our allies and enemies:
After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, President Clinton
promised that those who were responsible would be hunted down and
punished. One blind Sheik went to
prison.
After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U
S Military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted
down and punished. They weren’t.
After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which
killed 19 and wounded 200 military people, Clinton promised that those
responsible would be hunted down and punished.
They were not.
When the bombing of U S Embassies in Africa occurred in
1998, killing 224 and injuring more than 5,000, Clinton promised that those responsible
would be hunted down and punished. They
weren’t.
Had Clinton kept ANY of his promises, perhaps 9/11/would never
have occurred.
Let’s consider now some of the promises President Obama has
made:
Those in the IRS who abused their power and broke the law to
slow-walk permits for Tea Party Patriots to obtain tax-free status for their
support groups, “Will not be tolerated.
We will get to the bottom of this and prosecute wrong-doers.” None found to date.
“We’ll find out who is responsible for all those guns being
sold to Mexican Drug Cartel members, and they will be punished to the full
extent of the law.” But Attorney General
Eric Holder is still in office, and not one ATF supervisor has been charged.
“We will hunt down those responsible for the terrorist
attack on Benghazi (No, Obama wouldn’t say it like that, would he?) and bring
them to justice”. They have not arrested
or killed a single person. Not even
Hillary Clinton, who was more responsible for the four American deaths that
occurred in Benghazi than anyone other than the terrorists who actually carried
out the attack.
Now, President Obama wants the cover of Congressional
approval for “a limited attack”, a “shot across the bow” to show Syria we are
serious when we tell them they must not use chemical weapons. He’s saying, “Trust me. I’ll follow the advice of my Secretary of
State ( thrice-wounded Vietnam veteran John Kerry) and my Secretary of Defense
Chuck Hagel, a confused former Republican (or is he a confused current Republican? No matter—he is
confused.) We know how to handle these situations! You can count on us!”
Wolf ticket, anyone?
It’s football season, and perhaps that is why this deal
Obama is attempting to pull off with the Congress reminds me of Lucy trying to
convince Charlie Brown one more time that she will hold the football for him to
kick, and will not pull it away from him at the last moment as she has every
time in the past. I promise I will not do it again, Charlie Brown!
What makes this scenario even more frightening, I fear that
we have a Charlie Brown Congress!
