In today’s political climate, controversy isn’t just risky — it’s radioactive. Say the wrong thing, quote the wrong verse, host the wrong guest, and you might find yourself branded with one of the most damning labels in public discourse: antisemite. That’s exactly what’s playing out in the growing rift between conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and Senator Ted Cruz.

🔥 The Carlson–Cruz Clash

Senator Cruz recently condemned Carlson for hosting white nationalist Nick Fuentes and defending New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, whose pro-Palestinian activism has drawn accusations of antisemitism. Cruz didn’t mince words, calling Carlson’s platform “poison” and urging fellow conservatives to speak out.

Carlson, meanwhile, has pushed back — not by endorsing Mamdani’s politics, but by challenging the reflexive labeling of dissent as hate. His defenders argue that Carlson is simply quoting Scripture and defending free speech, not promoting bigotry.

As Proverbs 18:17 reminds us, “The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” In a culture quick to condemn, we would do well to pause and examine before we accuse.

🧠 The Deeper Issue

At the heart of this clash is a troubling trend: the weaponization of labels. In an age of political expediency, calling someone an antisemite has become a convenient way to end the conversation — no rebuttal, no nuance, no context. It’s a rhetorical kill switch.

But this tactic comes at a cost:

• It dilutes the meaning of real antisemitism.

• It shuts down theological and historical discussion, even when rooted in Scripture.

• It creates fear, making people hesitant to speak truthfully or quote the Bible.

Paul warned of this dynamic in Galatians 4:16: “Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?” When truth becomes taboo, we’re no longer debating ideas — we’re enforcing orthodoxy by intimidation.

✝️ A Biblical Example

Take the crucifixion of Jesus. The Gospels record that certain Jewish leaders stirred up the crowd to demand His death — a historical fact, not a racial slur. “But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas instead” (Mark 15:11). That’s not antisemitism — it’s Scripture.

Yet when Carlson referenced this, critics accused him of echoing dangerous tropes. The irony? Jesus Himself was Jewish (Matthew 1:1). So were His disciples (Acts 1:13). So was Paul, who declared, “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia” (Acts 22:3).

To erase these facts in the name of sensitivity is to erase the very Jewishness of the Gospel itself.

🛡️ Courage Over Convenience

We need a political culture that can handle hard truths without resorting to smear tactics. Disagreement isn’t hate. Quoting Scripture isn’t bigotry. And defending someone’s right to speak — even if you disagree with them — isn’t endorsement.

As Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” When labels replace logic, and fear replaces faith, we lose the ability to discern.

If we’re going to preserve free speech, theological integrity, and honest debate, we must resist the temptation to throw words like “antisemite” as a shortcut to silence. Truth deserves more than convenience. It deserves courage.

As Paul exhorted Timothy, “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2). That’s the kind of bold, thoughtful engagement our moment demands.

Donald Trump and Character

No individual can rise above his core character—an integral part of that person’s very being and almost fully developed by the time he has reached the age of fifteen or sixteen. That combination of traits and attributes which go into the make-up of character defines a man or woman. Further, input into the development of that character which is most important is that of the individual who must carry it and live with it. The vast majority of his actions will be guided by that core character for the rest of his life. Of course, he can pretend to be a person of greater character, superior attributes—but that is a charade, and it cannot be sustained over a long period of time before he will revert to his basic self.

Donald Trump’s character is such that he needs no proof at all to conclude that Ted Cruz was the guilty party behind the publishing of a nude photo of Trump’s wife, even though the Super Pac that admits responsibility is not one that supports Cruz. Rather, it is an anti-Trump Pac called ‘Make America Awesome’. No matter. Trump knows, and he does not want to be confused by facts. Trump said, “He knew about the picture. He may have even bought the rights to the picture, (meaning his campaign). And the super PAC had it. He's very close to the super PAC. I didn't start this. He did.”

So we are to be persuaded Cruz found out about the photo of Melania, bought the rights to it, and directed ‘Make America Awesome’ to release it. In addition to being disgustingly low-brow, such an act would be illegal. One would think a Constitutional lawyer would be aware of that fact and would be loathe to risk a fine or prison term. As an article in the Washington Post reported, “We expect this from Trump by now. Trump says things, and they are wrong. People note that they are wrong, and Trump and his supporters don't care. That's the pattern.”

 

On the other hand, The National Enquirer, which might as well be owned by Trump (do you think he would admit it if he did own it?) prints an article accusing Cruz of not one but five marital infidelities. It is known that the owner of record of the Enquirer is an avid supporter of Donald Trump and has printed articles critical of other opponents of Trump (Dr. Carson comes to mind). Trump, however, demands he be given plausible deniability when he says he was not behind publishing of that article on Cruz, and all his loyal followers plus other haters of Ted Cruz will gladly grant him that.

Really, in terms of the damage done, at this point it doesn’t matter who was responsible for the Enquirer story--a fact of which Trump is keenly aware. There are enough people who will believe it that it is likely to sway the electorate in the next few primaries. Between that article and the unfathomable continuing campaign of John Kasich, by the time the truth is known, Trump will already be the de facto winner of the Republican nomination for the presidency. He should be congratulated. Only . . .

Everything about Donald Trump shouts that he is a self-absorbed narcissist who only wants to make Donald Trump look great. If America can be helped at the same time, well, that would be alright. He has proven time and again that he is willing to destroy campaigns, reputations careers—whatever is necessary to vanquish anyone who opposes him. It doesn’t matter whether the sometimes ridiculous accusations he makes are true. All that is important is that they denigrate, belittle, humiliate and embarrass that person towards whom his poisonous venom is directed. If you are willing to destroy the lives and/or reputations of others, why should you concern yourself with whether what you say is true or fair? The only objective is to win.

Whatever Cruz is or has done, he is correct in his assertion that Trump is a sniveling coward. Yes, Trump is a bully, but only a verbal bully as opposed to one who would enter the ring himself to take on an opponent. He hides behind someone else and claims he doesn’t want to believe what he has just accused his opponent of, but “this is out there . . . It might be true”. How many times have you heard him say that? Decorum, honesty and fairness dictate that you should not, cannot just throw out a baseless allegation unless . . .  your goal is to tar someone’s reputation and character in order to disqualify them as an opponent in order to gain something you want. Well, in the minds of many, that prize might well become less valuable once Trump has acquired it than it is now, with an Islamo-fascist as president. If Donald Trump is elected, America's trajectory is not upward towards being a better nation. It will mean enough Americans are accepting of the kind of coarseness that should shame the most tawdry of us. In any event, Trump’s methods are cowardly. They are unseemly AND unmanly.

It can be hoped that most Americans do not want a cowardly or unmanly president, but . . . will you have a choice come November?

 

RINO…And Proud of It?

Apparently I’m a RINO. And, not just a normal RINO… a “big-spending” one at that!

You see, I don’t care about a repeal of the medical device tax…at this time.

And, I don’t care if the individual mandate is put off for a year, or not.

Although, I do wonder “why not” in light of those organizations already receiving a delay, and/or waiver, from the effects of “Obama-Care.”

No…I want “Obama-Care” repealed in its entirety.

If that make me a RINO, I gladly assume the title. Just so long as we come up with another title for John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and the likes!

You see, I’m a realist. And, I realize the only way to repeal “Obama-Care” is with votes…votes the GOP simply doesn't have at this time!

With that in mind, why risk political repercussions in the 2014 election cycle, with a potential government shutdown today?

“But, Mr. Rooster…certainly the Democrats will take the blame for that”

And, I've got a bridge in New York to sell you…

Democrats control the Senate and the Executive Branch…we’re outgunned on this one!

Even Ted Cruz, God bless his heart, would admit so.

While I respect Ted’s position (and select others), let’s look at the current budget negotiation from its eventual end result…

To Fund, Or Not To Fund…That Is The Question.

Better stated, is the battle over “Obama-Care” (now) a fight the GOP can win?

Ted Cruz believes so, as do other “Tea Party Anarchists” (as they’re now called). But, they are wrong.

Boehner’s stance today will morph into a compromise with Democrats towards a last minute deal, and GOP “RINO’s” will team with their peers on the left to pass a budget…err…continuing resolution funding the government through December.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a fan of the “Affordable Care Act” and have already experienced its wrath:

I was promised lower premiums, yet mine have already increased by more than $100 a month, with an additional increase expected in 2014.

I was promised I could continue the long term relationship I enjoy with my preferred Doctors. Yet, many of them have chosen retirement than to comply with the new regulations.

I will not qualify for a subsidy to off-set the increased premiums, because I am considered “rich” under the legislation.

I am one of the “Tea Party Anarchists” Harry Reid refers to, and want “Obama-Care” to disappear!

But, I’m also a realist...

A Sarah Palin Resurrection?

Bill Kristol had this to say about Sarah Palin during his recent interview on ABC:

“I was for taking the gamble of putting her on the ticket, I don’t think it hurt the ticket in 2008. — I think her stepping down as governor of Alaska was a big problem."

"People don’t like to see a candidate, a governor, an executive — absent some medical reason or whatever — just leave office early. And she had been a good governor — incidentally — of Alaska until then."

"So, I think that is something, I think, she has to recover from in terms of being a serious leader in the party. Still has a lot of loyalty, still can shape the debate, she still has a great political touch.”

“I think the way Palin would possibly resurrect herself — if that’s the right word or rehabilitate herself, I think is a better way of putting it — run for Senate in Alaska in 2014,” — I’m not urging that. I’m just saying, if I were her adviser, I would say, Take on the incumbent, you have to win a primary, then you have to beat an incumbent Democrat, it’s not easy.” 

Ok Bill, let’s set the record straight — Palin resigned from office due to the enormous costs and distractions of battling frivolous ethics investigations launched against her from (in my opinion) both sides of the aisle...
